What Makes This Recipe Great

One of my favorite things I ate over in Hawaii was this Tropical Mango Papaya Salsa. It was so delicious and addictive that I knew I had to recreate it at home. It tastes like Mexico and Hawaii had a baby and made this delicious fruit salsa. I can’t stop eating it!

I’ve made fruit salsas in the past using pineapple, but I always thought they turned out too watery and runny. Not good. After eating this mango and papaya salsa, a light bulb clicked. Of course, use less “watery” fruit like mango and papaya! Still sweet and tasty, but none of the extra moisture you get from pineapple.

This mango papaya fruit salsa is tasty on its own, served with some tortilla chips for an appetizer or snack, but is also amazing on fish tacos or mixed into salads!

Ingredient Notes

  • Mango: You’ll want to make sure you have ripe mangoes for this recipe. They feel similar to an avocado when ripe, so keep that in mind when choosing one.
  • Ripe Papaya: Make sure you are working with a ripe, juicy papaya before making this salsa.
  • Jalapeno: Use more or less depending on your spice preference.
  • Red onion
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Fresh lime juice: For extra brightness and flavor, feel free to add a but of lime zest if desired.
  • Salt and pepper
a bowl of salsa with a spoon resting inside

  1. Remove the pit and slice the fruit into small cubes. Wash and chop all vegetables.

Expert Tips

  • If you’ve never cut up a mango or papaya before, be sure to watch the recipe video to see how!
  • If you’re using ripe fruit, there shouldn’t be any need for additional sweetener. However, you can use agave or honey to sweeten it if needed.

Serving Tips

Serve this delicious salsa by itself with tortilla chips on top of fish, as a condiment for tacos or burritos, or however else you love fruit salsa (I could eat it with a spoon!).

Storage Tips

Store leftover mango papaya salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Leftovers will keep for up to 1 week.
