Blackberry Mint Mojitos
Blackberry Mint Mojitos – rum, fresh mint, fresh lime juice and soda water mixed with fresh blackberry juice. Sugar free to keep it skinny. A refreshing, fruity cocktail perfect for spring time!
Welp, we just wrote several gigantic checks to the IRS this week. Cocktails are definitely needed. Needed to numb the pain of how much we had to pay, and also to celebrate that taxes are over. I’m sure you all could use one too.
I remember fondly when taxes actually gave me money back. That was in the good old days when I was 18 and working at Nordstrom. I would quickly use my tax refund to get some cute clothes for spring. Not anymore.
Between Shawn being self employed last year and working freelance doing audio installs in homes, our videography business, this blog, and our rental property, that is a lot of income that hadn’t had any taxes taken out yet. Guess you’ve got to spend money to make money.
After sending off those checks, we really needed a cocktail. With this beautiful, sunny weather we’re having, I was craving something light and fruity. Blackberry mojitos it is!
I love mojitos. I first learned about them when I was a bartender in college. But at the bar I was working at, they were making mojitos allll wrong. They just used rum, soda water, a packet of sugar, and a pre made mojito mix that had mint and lime “flavoring”. A mix! No no no. Mojito’s need to have fresh mint and fresh lime juice. Anytime a customer would order one, I would warn them by whispering, “They’re not that good here. Trust me. But I can make you a great cosmo!”
When I make mojitos at home, they have plenty of fresh mint and fresh lime juice. I don’t like cocktails that are too sweet, so I don’t add in any sugar. I am convinced that all hangovers are from the sugar in drinks, not the alcohol.
To add a little bit of sweetness, I like to add in some fresh fruit juice. My current favorite mojito version is this blackberry mint mojito.
I blend the fresh blackberries up with a little bit of water, otherwise the juice is very thick. I then strain the juice thru a fine mesh sieve so there aren’t a ton of blackberry seeds that will just get stuck in my straw or my teeth and make me look like a dope.
You could use thawed, frozen blackberries if you don’t have access to fresh ones. But it’s spring! Get the fresh ones.
Blackberry Mint Mojitos
Ingredients

- 1 pint blackberries

Blackberry Mint Mojito
- 6 whole mint leaves
- juice from half a lime
- 2 oz rum
- 2 oz blackberry juice
- soda water
Instructions
- In a blender, combine the blackberries and water. Blend until pureed. Strain the juice thru a fine mesh sieve and discard all the seeds.
- In a glass, add the mint leaves, juice from half a lime and the lime rind, and a splash of the soda water. Gently muddle to release the flavor from the mint leaves. You come up with the best cocktails! We had to pay taxes for the first time ever and it was so disappointing!! Last year we got a good amount back and started a vacation fund and I was hoping to do the same this year, unfortunately the IRS had other plans for us! I need one of these beautiful drinks just thinking about it, haha!
What a yummy looking drink! I love the blackberry flavor that you choose!! Pinned :)
Natalie, I hear you sister!!! Taxes suck big time. . but we all gotta do it. . I really really dislike tax season. . you did it in style b/c you made these gorgeous mojitos too!!!! oh my gawd, so beautiful!!!! love!
Thank god they are over! Doing taxes abroad has been a painful experience! I totally agree with you on too much sugar being the cause for hangover. And I can’t stand too sweet of drinks (probably because I know what will happen the next day…). This looks perfect! I must try it!
I FEEL ya, sista’! Those IRS checks are painful, right? I could definitely wash away the pain with a blackberry mojito! Cheers to that!
These look so good!! I don’t like super sweet drinks either, so these sound just perfect. YUM!
I’m with you — no flavoring packets and fresh ingredients only! This is my kind of cocktail — fruity and bursting with fresh flavor. Sorry about the taxes, but these mojitos had to help. :)
I ended up breaking even on my taxes this year, but I’m still going to treat myself to one of these mojitos. Just successfully completing them in a timely manner is stress enough! The color of this cocktail is just FAB!
this drink looks great! I saw it on Instagram as I was sweating at the pool watching my kids swimming lessons. MAN! Talk about a strong craving :) I am going to make these, I need to bust out of my boring wine rut. Now I have to go check out your baby chicks!!

This mojito looks gorgeous, Natalie! I’ve never made my own before, let alone had a blackberry kind. This sounds so refreshing and just what I need after a long day at work!
Natalie, wow, these pitures are absoltely gorgeous. I’ve tried all types of mojitos but am yet to have a blackberry one. This must be corrected ASAP! :) Cheers to the tax season being over.
Oh my goodness! Yes, please. These look perfect. I can just picture us sitting on my deck sipping these an catching up on the latest and greatest. :-)
Gorgeous color!! I LOVE a good mojito!
Oh, gawsh. Natalie! These drinks are absolutely just BEYOND gorgeous, girl! I’m totally digging all that fresh blackberry and mint goodness and how ultra-fresh and fruity these beauties look! Sounds like you totally deserve one or two of these after finally getting the taxes done. Cheers!! ;)
Mojitos are my favorite drink! I hardly ever order them out unless I know they make them the right way. I love that you used to tell your customers that the mojitos weren’t that good haha, I would totally appreciate that. I’m definitely trying this when I get my hands on some fresh blackberries… one of the farms here has a pick-your-own for them, but they won’t be ready for a little while yet. First thing I’m making is this mojito. Oh, and I’m so happy tax season is over too!
