Ingredients

Mexican Turkey Burgers

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro
  • 2 green onions finely sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic grated or finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice from about half a lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt + more sprinkled on top of patties
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Serving

  • Butter lettuce or iceberg or romaine
  • Guacamole
  • Sliced white onions
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced jalapenos

Instructions

  • Preheat your grill (or indoor grill pan) over medium high heat. Rub the grates with olive oil.
  • In a medium size mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, red bell pepper, cilantro, green onions, garlic, lime juice and salt. Use a fork to mix it together. Form into 4 patties, drizzle the burger patties with olive oil and sprinkle with a little more salt.
  • Grill the burger patties about 5-8 minutes per side, until they reach an internal temperature of 165ºF. Remove from heat and allow to rest for 5 minutes.
  • Serve warm on lettuce "buns" topped with sliced white onions, sliced tomatoes, guacamole and jalapenos.

Notes

Burger Patty Hack: I've got a great hack for forming perfect patties! I saved the lid from one of those big tub of nuts from Costco, it is the perfect size to form burger patties (as seen in the collage photo in the post). I line the inside of the lid with saran wrap, fill the inside with meat, put a small piece of parchment paper on top of the meat and press it in, then turn it out and leave it on the parchment paper to easily get it on the grill.
Freeze: These patties freeze beautifully. Freeze the patties uncovered, and once frozen place the frozen patties in a ziploc bag. Will keep in the freezer for 6 months. When ready to cook, just cook the frozen patties per the above instructions.
