I just combined my 2 favorite things right now: burgers and Mexican food. And the results are making me so very, very happy.
These paleo + whole30 turkey burgers are beyond delicious, and packed with so much flavor!
I already shared how I can’t get enough of my favorite paleo + whole30 burgers. We’ve honestly been making them once a week. But I wanted to switch it up a bit with the flavors, and still get my burger fix.
The first time I did Whole30 I loved the Trader Joe’s Chile Lime chicken burgers they have in the frozen section. I wanted to try a homemade version, because we all know I love homemade more than store bought. I nailed the flavors and I can’t wait for all of you to make these!
I decided to use ground turkey instead of ground chicken, but you could easily swap in ground chicken instead. I flavor the meat with bell peppers, scallions, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, salt and pepper.
The paleo + whole30 Mexican turkey burger patties get grilled off and get even more flavor on the grill. So tasty!
I serve these paleo + whole30 Mexican turkey burgers on butter lettuce “buns” topped with my homemade paleo + whole30 guacamole, sliced onions, tomatoes and jalapeños. I cannot get enough!
I love making extras so I can have another for lunch the next day.

Mexican Turkey Burgers
1 pound ground turkey
1/3 cup finely chopped red bell pepper
1/4 cup finely chopped cilantro
2 green onions, finely sliced
2 cloves of garlic, grated or finely minced
1 tablespoon lime juice (from about half a lime)
1/2 teaspoon salt (+ more sprinkled on top of patties)
1 tablespoon olive oil
Butter lettuce (or iceberg or romaine)
Sliced white onions
Kitchen Equipment Needed
Preheat your grill (or indoor grill pan) over medium high heat. Rub the grates with olive oil.
In a medium size mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, red bell pepper, cilantro, green onions, garlic, lime juice and salt. Use a fork to mix it together. Form into 4 patties, drizzle the burger patties with olive oil and sprinkle with a little more salt.
Grill the burger patties about 5-8 minutes per side, until they reach an internal temperature of 165ºF. Remove from heat and allow to rest for 5 minutes.
Serve warm on lettuce “buns” topped with sliced white onions, sliced tomatoes, guacamole and jalapenos.
I’ve got a great hack for forming perfect patties! I saved the lid from one of those big tub of nuts from Costco, it is the perfect size to form burger patties (as seen in the collage photo in the post). I line the inside of the lid with saran wrap, fill the inside with meat, put a small piece of parchment paper on top of the meat and press it in, then turn it out and leave it on the parchment paper to easily get it on the grill.
These patties freeze beautifully. Freeze the patties uncovered, and once frozen place the frozen patties in a ziploc bag. Will keep in the freezer for 6 months. When ready to cook, just cook the frozen patties per the above instructions.
