Kale Coconut Green Smoothie – made with kale, shredded coconut, banana, almond milk, hemp seeds and sweetened with honey.

Josh and I have the sweetest morning routine. He starts to wake up around 6:15am. We cuddle in bed for 10 minutes, he is even more lovable when he first wakes up. He plays with my hair and coos.

Around 6:25am we get up and I feed him and get him a new diaper, make the bed, then strap Joshie in his stroller and we go for a 3 mile walk around the neighborhood.

I love starting the day off with our walk. We’re usually starting before 7am, so the streets are still quiet and there’s not too much traffic. Josh stays awake for the first 20 minutes, but then falls back asleep for his first (of 5!) nap of the day.

Then it’s just me and my podcasts, enjoying the quiet of the morning.

Kale Coconut Green Smoothie

When we get back home and Josh wakes up, we go in the garden and cut some fresh kale so I can make this kale coconut green smoothie for breakfast. Josh loves being outside and looking at all of the plants. I love having this fresh green smoothie for breakfast. Best way to refuel after our long walk.

This smoothie is delicious, healthy, and so easy to whip together. I can make it 1 handed while the other hand is holding Josh in just minutes. I use the kale from my garden, both the leaves and the stems. I add in unsweetened shredded coconut, a banana, almond milk, hemp seeds and ice.

  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 cup packed kale leaves, leaves and stems
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 medium size banana
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 tablespoon hemp seeds
  • 1 tablespoon honey


  • Combine all ingredients in a blender, and blend until liquefied. Serve.
