Whole30 Compliant Homemade Salsa
Finding a good, compliant Whole30 salsa can be tricky. So many of them have added sugars.
I’ve started making my own, and I am blown away at how beyond easy and incredibly delicious it is! Even better than what I can buy in the store. It tastes exactly like what you get at the Mexican restaurant.
Whole30 + Keto Salsa Ingredients
The best part is it is made using canned tomatoes! So you can enjoy delicious salsa with peak ripe tomatoes all year long. I prefer using fire roasted canned tomatoes. It adds so much more depth of flavor, and gives the salsa that authentic Mexican restaurant.
The rest of the ingredients are canned diced green chiles, jalapeno, onion, cilantro, lime juice and salt. So simple! The recipe is for a mild salsa, but for more heat add in more jalapenos!
How Long Does Homemade Salsa Last?
This salsa will last for at least a week in the fridge, if not longer. Just check for spoilage.
I like to store mine in pint mason jars. It makes enough to fill 2 pint mason jars. You can also use 1 quart mason jar.

Needed some salsa but was too lazy to go to the store. Enter Pinterest and this post. Easy to make with ingredients (mostly on hand. I did sub freeze dried cilantro, reducing the amount to taste). Great tasting and my friends liked it better than the store bought.
Hi Sharon! I am so happy you found this recipe and that your friends liked it so much too! So glad to have you here!
I love this recipe! It’s easy and tastes so fresh. What I think is different about this recipe than others is the addition of green chilis which gives the flavor extra dimension. The only thing I do different is add a bit of crushed garlic but that’s my thing. This makes a lot for just my husband and I but lasts for days in the fridge and I add it to everything. So it’s not wasted, I usually use the last of it to my chili recipe recipe.
I agree – I think the green chilis are the key to the recipe Lee Ann. Adding crushed garlic is a fantastic addition. :)
Have you tried using fresh or home roasted tomatoes? Have a ton from the garden now! Five stars because all of your recipes are 🤗
Yes I do make it with fresh tomatoes when they are available and in season Maggie. Otherwise, I just stick with canned because they are picked at their peak of freshness. I am so glad you enjoyed the salsa!
This salsa is so easy and so tasty! It’s a staple in my fridge, no joke, ALL THE TIME! My husband eats a bowlful nearly every afternoon with tortilla chips. I love it with plantain chips (highly recommend the Trader Joe’s tostones) on my eggs, tacos! It’s just so good! I up the amount of jalapeños and sometimes add in a little chipotle powder for an extra kick!
I am so happy you like my salsa Andrea! I love that you always have a bowl of it in your fridge. It’s actually a very healthy snack for your hubby. Upping the jalapenos and adding chipotle powder sounds fantastic!
I cannot believe that I have been buying salsa all these years! Even gourmet salsas that. Pay a fortune don’t compare to this! We Loved it so much and it was so easy and inexpensive to make!
Yeah! I am thrilled you like my salsa! Who would have thought it is so easy to make and so much better than store bought – even the fancy ones. Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it Ellie.
made this to go w/the carnitas & fajita veggies & it was DELICIOUS! super yummy on eggs the next day too ?
I am so happy you liked my salsa Jessica. Isn’t it yummy on eggs?
OH my goodness! Sooooo good, easy, ( all ingredients from Trader Joes). Tastes like restaurant salsa as my picky eater son kept saying. A thumbs up from him too!! Will never buy jar salsa again!
I am so happy you liked my salsa Rebecca! Isn’t it great that you can get all the ingredients right at Trader Joe’s? I am glad it was easy for you to make and that you and your son enjoyed it!
Love this. It’s my go to for taco night
Yeah! So glad you like this Chelsea! I just love having ‘go to’ recipes! Makes life SO much easier!
This is the easiest and best salsa EVER! I make it weekly for my family, and it’s become my go-to when I’m in charge of bringing a dish/app to a party or meeting. I get all the ingredients at Trader Joe’s– their fire roasted tomatoes have green chile’s in them already so it adds a bit more of a kick, so I leave out the jalapeño.
My family also loves this salsa! So happy it is now a ‘go to’ recipe for you! That is such a nice compliment.
