Peanut Butter Cocoa Coconut Smoothie – a better for you breakfast smoothie with creamy peanut butter, coconut flakes, cocoa powder, banana and yogurt.
I’ve realized that my hearing has superpowers. When I am asleep, my hearing knows whether it is a sound I should wake up for or sleep through.
If baby Josh makes the tiniest squeak, sound or whimper, I pop awake instantly.
But, when Shawn’s alarm goes off at 5:15am every morning, I sleep right through it. It is a LOUD alarm. And he snoozes. TWICE. I sleep through all of it.
How is that possible?
Needless to say, Shawn is all alone in the early morning. I am not waking up that early if I don’t have to. He makes his coffee, watches the news, and makes his own breakfast. Yes ladies, my husband can make his own breakfast.
Well, he can kind of make his own breakfast. I do all the prep work for him. For a while he was having my overnight oatmeal, and then we were on a big granola kick, but now that the weather is getting warmer he loves starting his day off with this peanut butter cocoa coconut smoothie I concocted for him. I measure out all the ingredients for him the night before, lay them out, and he puts them all in a blender with ice in the morning.
And yes, I sleep through the blender noise too.
This smoothie has all of Shawn’s favorite flavors. Chocolate, peanut butter, coconut and banana. It tastes like dessert, but is actually a better for you smoothie. I use unsweetened coconut flakes and unsweetened cocoa powder, so no added sugar but lots of added flavor.
Our favorite peanut butter is Jif Creamy Peanut Butter. The 2 tablespoons in this smoothie adds 7g of protein, which my hard working guy needs. It is also gluten free and non GMO.
Shawn loves yogurt, so add in 1/4 cup of Dannon Vanilla All Natural Lowfat Yogurt. It is made with all natural ingredients, and the flavor is perfect for this smoothie.
Last is a banana, which gives the smoothie a thick and creamy texture, added potassium, and tastes great.

Do you know how many calories this is? Thanks…sounds delicious!
Hi Parker! I actually don’t calculate calories because it can vary so much depending on the ingredients you actually end up using. But when I do calculate calories, I love caloriecount.com! Hope you love this smoothie if you make it. So good!
Oh heck yes!! This is full of my favorite things – I wish I had one of these in front of me right now :) yum!
You would love this! Thanks Rachel!
Oh my gosh, I wish I could sleep through an alarm or better yet.. my dogs barking. That would be so nice! This smoothie looks so fantastic, Natalie! Love that you added in some coconut too!
Dogs barking used to be my alarm, especially on trash pick up days. Thanks Danielle, you’d love this smoothie!
Isn’t it amazing how ANY TINY NOISE from a baby will wake you up? Amazing and horrifying all at the same time. That why I never sleep with my babies in my room. I’m a heartless mother what can I say. SO glad you can sleep through that alarm!! Tender mercies!! haha. This smoothie looks legit Natalie!
Every SINGLE noise he makes wakes me up! And I probably need to learn from you, Josh is still in our room. Eeeek! He’s just so sweet, I love having him near by. But I know we’ll both probably sleep better when he’s in his own room. I need to get tough! Thanks Karen, you’re just the best. Hugs!
It’s that mother’s instinct! My mom is and always has been a sound sleeper, but when I was younger she didn’t miss a thing. If I woke up sick, she was there… if I was in any sort of distress she was there. Heck, I didn’t even have to make a sound. It’s pretty cool how awesome you Mom’s are :) This smoothie looks so delicious and sounds like the perfect breakfast!
Totally mothers instinct! It’s weird, during the day when he is napping, I can actually sense when he is about to wake up. It’s crazy! Thanks Keri!
